Miles Jackson had a genuine passion for reading as a child. He preferred books over toys since he was two years old. By the age of 3, he had an extensive library of his own at his Atlanta home. To downsize his book collection (because he ran out of space on his bookshelves), his parents suggested he could help other kids who didn’t have home libraries by donating his gently used books. Miles was shocked at the news and replied, “You mean all the kids in the world don’t have books to read at bedtime! That’s not fair!” Therefore, he decided he wanted to give books to “all the kids in the world.” Touched by his innocence and compassion, his family decided that the mission of the bookmobile would be to spread books “miles around” the metro Atlanta area. Initial book donations were given by Miles, family, friends, church organizations, and colleagues.

What began as an informal project to collect and distribute books to 100 needy children in his community in 2007 grew to consistently donate brand new children’s books to Atlanta shelters, after-school programs, local YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs, two local churches, and an orphanage in Jinja, Uganda by 2009.  Since 2008, Miles Jackson has been able to partner with the Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change for its Semester of Service and the Global Youth Day Service Campaign to advocate for literacy and community service amongst youth in the metro Atlanta area by hosting book drives and a literacy awareness event at the NFL Youth Educational Township, Books for Africa, and the Boys and Girls Club.

Now an adult, Miles Jackson has now distributed over 20,000 books to Atlanta children through the foundation’s literacy events and has raised money towards literacy advocacy programs. Due to the overwhelming need for access to books in under-served learning facilities in Atlanta, The Books for Miles Foundation became a Georgia non-profit organization that provided literacy events, workshops and programs to communities all over the metro Atlanta area. The organization is currently being rebranded to expand its initiatives and programs to support multiple causes for children and families as a sole company.
